Kristine Canon

Pre-school Founding Director and Peace Education Advocate


Teacher Tin Canon is one of the founding directors of Creative Learning Paths School, a progressive
preschool to grade 12 educational institution advocating for inclusion and peace education. Under
her leadership, the school has been awarded the Excellence in Educational Transformation Award
by Bayan Academy in 2017 for the innovations in peace education and inclusion ingrained in its
curriculum and programs.

She has more than 20 years of teaching experience from preschool to college levels including
special education. She is currently a faculty member of the College of Education at De La Salle
University and formerly at the Family Life and Child Development Department of UP Diliman.
Whether for teaching or parenting, she is often a guest lecturer and trainer of schools both in the
public and private sector.

She is a reading specialist and a Filipino children’s book writer. She has been awarded the Salanga
Writer’s Prize by the Philippine Board on Books for the Young in 2000 and continues to write for
children. She has also published feature articles in the Reading Association of the Philippines
Journal in 2006 and 2010 and has contributed a chapter to the recently launched 2020 book on
Progressive Education in the Philippines, School is Life.

She finished both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of the Philippines
on Family Life and Child Development and Reading Education and is currently finishing her
doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Management at De La Salle University.

She is also a core team formator for Teach Peace Build Peace Movement, an independent, nonpartisan, and non-profit organization that spearheads a strategic initiative running peace education programs for children in conflict and non-conflict zones using a holistic approach.
